Bitcoin is the largest and most expensive cryptocurrency in the world. And now in India, it is becoming an ever more popular topic. The Indian National Congress leader accuses the Modi-Led BJP government of covering up India’s biggest multi-million dollar Bitcoin scam in the southern state of Karnataka.
Randeep Singh Surjewala, a spokesperson of India’s main opposition party (Indian National Congress) accused the BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) government of Karnataka of covering the Bitcoin scam.
Surjewala said in the press conference, “Instead of conducting a fair investigation, the BJP Government of Karnataka appears to be preoccupied with a cover-up.”
The Surjewala said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to drop the investigation of this scam by asking the Bommai not to worry about this issue. He added “We don’t know if Bommai is involved in Bitcoin scam or not. All we are asking is to investigate it properly & punish the guilty. Why is Narendra Modi asking CM to ignore?”
According to reports, the scam was dated back in 2019 and now came to light a year ago, when Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch police arrested a hacker Srikrishna, and his team members in a narcotics case.
Srikrishna hacker was the mastermind behind the hacking of the Karnataka government’s E-procurement portal in 2019. During the investigation, he also accepted the hacking of crypto exchange Bitfinex in 2016 and stole Bitcoins 2000.
Now Surjewala is asking the government to disclose the role of Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, former home minister during when the scam took place.
